Steel Collage Gate + Lighted Handrail

I designed and built these outdoor metal elements for a home in the tall pines of Prescott, Arizona.  The six-foot high fence and gate are an assemblage of various steel artifacts I salvaged from a variety of sources.

The homeowner needed a rail along the irregular concrete steps leading up to the entry from the driveway.  The handrail is a large #8 rebar, which is great for grip with its ridges, and is supported by paired angle posts.

Each post holds an original light fixture made from 22-ga sheet steel with low-voltage landscape bulbs.  The rail posts and lights will rust in time (though shown here in brand-new condition.)

Stack Medallion Ceiling Fixture

As a complement to the Stack Sconces, I created a ceiling-mounted fixture for the hallway at the Schultz house which utilizes the reclaimed wood scraps and black iron pipe, just as before.  Two “radio tube” spiral filament bulbs are the finishing touch.  Approx. 18 x 18″.

Minno Lamp

Sometimes with a little help, a simple artifact can become something extraordinary.  I used to go fishing with my dad when I was a kid in Pennsylvania, and we would sometimes take a minnow bucket like this with us to keep the live bait he would catch in a local stream.

This first one is a Christmas gift for a faithful client, but you can bet I’ll be making more soon.

Tin Table

The galvanized table top is itself a found object.  It was a heat shield to protect the floor from a coal-burning stove in an old farmhouse.  This table is for sale now at Revised, the upcycled goods shop I designed in downtown Prescott, Arizona.

Fireplace Surround

Another design element to the Schultz House takes shape, in keeping with the industrial chic look – retrofitting an existing gas fireplace with a steel wrap.
